What are the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022?
The WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022, made under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA), are the work health and safety law for Western Australian mining. They replaced the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 and prescribe the key statutory positions every mine must fill — site senior executive, underground manager, quarry manager and exploration manager — along with the certificates of competency each position requires. An alternate appointed to act in a key statutory position must meet the same requirements as the permanent appointee.
